Three-betting might be the popular thing to do in idn poker, but do you understand what it is or how to do it? Players have been known to bet either too high or tight on the range, which causes them to lose money. You need to understand the value of the 3-bet and the significance it holds before you start.
The Meaning and Value Behind the 3-Bet
The 3-bet works the same way any other value bet works. The player believes that he or she has the best hand, at the moment, and they want to take advantage while they can to score the money in the pot.
Players have to work against the other player’s range. An AA-JJ or A-K is going to be too tight to pull off. The AA-99 or the AK-AQ is going to be too wide a range to make it. Hint: The player in that position cannot reraise because their hand is light. Once more, the objective is to get them to fold.
What hands are great for 3-betting?
No hand is perfect. Players who understand that this move is a bluff, more or less, are going to have an easier time deciding which hands are better than others.
Players want to win without some kind of showdown. Now, that is not going to happen every time. Naturally, you need a hand that is strong enough to play poker even when you are called.

Too Much of a Good Thing
The idea is not to do the move too often. The move works because it is a semi-bluff. You are relying on the other player to fold.
Doing this too much will make the people at the table suspicious of you. You will lose legitimacy with your 3-betting and the overall value of the hand.
That is why experts say you should find value in a good hand above everything else. You cannot do a 3-bet because you feel like it. Once again, it is similar to the story of the “Boy Who Cried, Wolf.” The boy lied so much, and, as a result, the town did not believe him when a real wolf appeared and ate his flock. The same thing could happen here.
How do you combat those scenarios by using a light bet?
That is when a player reraises the pre-flop raiser with a hand that is not that great but your hand can still make it through to the end. In some ways, it is similar to a semi-bluff move. You are trying to get the other player to fold before he or she decides to reraise yet again.
